Gordon Denman - Love sex

Is it possible to show sex between two lovers with simplicity, kindness and sensuality? To this question, Gordon Denman, an American erotic photographer, seems to answer "yes it is", this series being an example that I find rather convincing, the models showing a gentle way to have sex and to be in love with each other (at least they play it well). Not the most devastating way to have sex I admit but a real scoptophilian pleasure. Gordon Denman books can be found here.

David LaChapelle - Courtney Love

Courtney Love has not a good reputation among Nirvana lovers. I don't care and I even found Hole a better band than Nirvana. Surely she's not the most equilibrated woman on earth but who asks an artist to be equilibrated? She provided a new way to spread a sexual image of women, not the bimbo, not the slut, not the artist, not the mother, not the depraved, something mixing all of them, a sort of complete complex woman probably hated by many for this specific reason (finally occidentals are not far from being the same reactionnary machists than they criticize islamists to be). Here a series of pictures taken over the last decades by David LaChapelle, who is not far to attract the same accusation for his audacious approach of photography in showing sexual and nude situations with very notorious artists. There's something of the decadent and pathetic nature of feminity in these images. Excuse for the definition of the images which is rather uneven.

Antoine d'Agata - Ice

Antoine d'Agata (see here for previous posts) has a new book out. It's called Ice (name of a drug he seems to have heavily taken during his stay in Vietnam where the pictures were shot). The images above have surely convinced you that it's once again a seminal and visceral work, not your usual documentarian visual stuff of course. Always difficult not to be troubled by this approach of photograph. To be part of and not only "voyeur" of the people and situations he captured with his camera is surely a way to moralize this activity. At least to his views (see his recent interviews). In this new series, sex seems less pregnant and the models less blurred than before. The last picture of this series (in B&W) grabs you by the bollocks and is an incredible equivalent of drawing.

Georges Pitts - Red shoes and dirty feet

It's no secret that Georges Pitts is one of my favorite erotic photographer. This 3 pix series called Red shoes and dirty feet may seem fairly insignificant for you, but it demonstrates how with simplicity, this guy can provide strong images that raise interest, excitation and stay in your head. There's plenty more I would like to show. I'll post them later on. A new site here.

Bruce Davidson - Welsh Miners, East 100th Street, The Dwarf and more

After watching these stunning pictures, you certainly don't need me to know that Bruce Davidson, born in 1933, is a master of photography. He gave Magnum agency some of its greatest images. Here, I gathered several high definition shots I could find on the net. Some are really among my favorite pictures, any period, any style, any author. Those with children in particular. Usually, I'm not totally at ease with making an artistic image from people misery, doing poetry with poverty. But here, it's much more than that. It's human condition in a given social context that Davidson gives us to see. The way we all cope with the environment we must deal with, and how we try to find our happiness in it, although sadness always prevails, is, for me, the underlying message of these pictures. And the way he uses the various possibilities of compositions to respect his models is a reference. Most of the pictures above were taken during the sixties. His most notorious project was about the Brooklyn gangs and the Civil Right Movements but my faves are those I posted above. A biography here.
