David Jay - The SCAR project (colour pictures)

Here the statement about this series: "The SCAR Project is a series of large-scale portraits of young breast cancer survivors shot by fashion photographer David Jay. Primarily an awareness raising campaign, The SCAR Project puts a raw, unflinching face on early onset breast cancer while paying tribute to the courage and spirit of so many brave young women". It's true these images are often strong and moving. No pathos, just what is. Finally, the strongest achievement of this series is that we actually look at the faces, eyes and expressions of these young women and not to the scars on their breast. Apparently paradoxical, this project obliterates what it was supposed to show, and makes us feel the integrity of a soul when we expected to see the wounds of a skin. Here are only smaller sized images but I'm sure full size they must be breath-taking. The site here.
