Sergi Reboredo - Voodoo in Haiti

Sergi Reboredo is a Spanish photographer who shares his work between photojournalism and travel photography. Here, he took a lot of pictures in a day-time and aquatic Haitian voodoo ceremony. These images are strong and disturbing. Difficult not to hesitate between fascination and amusement. There's something forced and artificial in these scenes but at the same time this wish for trance, excitation, communion with nature and getting out of it's own body is attracting. We often try to find these states in various activities such as sexual ones in our so-called developped societies. But this doesn't have the collective virtue of these large gatherings. Maybe orgies are the present pagan attempts to live these ritual ceremonies. Not sure, there's the same soul satisfaction. If you want to see the whole series, you can go to the Reboredo site here. I chose my favorites, in which bodies irradiate of sensuality and faces of intensity. And some wonderful looks, strangely absent.
