Carmen Devos - Strange histories

Carmen Devos is a flemish-Belgium photographer using rather ancient techniques (such as polaroid) and non-usual models (elderly or imperfect bodies). But in her statement she mainly talks about human memory and its uncertainty. Actually, in this series, she's more in a surrealistic (à la Max Ernst) approach than a purely conceptual one based on the recollection of the past. And I feel that the actual subject of these scenographies is the female sex, all the picture seeming to draw the look of the watcher to the hidden hole of the female model. But maybe my own obsession leads me to this interpretation. However, it's a fresh air to look at these old-time apparent pictures that paradoxically are truly of our times. Much more to see on her site here or on her flickr page there.
