Catherine Opie - Self-portraits

Well-known American photographer whose work made some "waves" in the past, Catherine Opie is born in 1961 (my generation would say the Who) and among her prolific work, did some classic self-portraits during her lifespan. The way she uses her body as a simple material for scarification, needle piercing and adopts the posture of SM or breeding mother, with a body so far from the usual machistic female models, gives more strength to these images that seem now to belong to a classical painting iconography of saints and virgins. Her recent works (about football players for example) don't talk to me that much but this is how she feels.
